FAQs

What should I expect during my assessment?

  • The initial appointment will involve a comprehensive subjective history and a physical assessment. The physical assessment is tailored to each client based on their complaints, but typically involves an external and internal assessment of the pelvic floor.

Do I have to have an internal exam?

  • No, you do not. It is strongly encouraged as it is the best way to assess the pelvic floor, but if you are not comfortable we can do alternative external techniques to guide you the best that we can.

Can I have an appointment while I’m on my period?

  • Of course! Menstruation is a normal part of life. It may even give us additional information to see how your pelvic floor reacts to menstruation.

Can I come if I am pregnant?

  • Yes! Pelvic floor physiotherapy can be very helpful during pregnancy and post-partum. Internal examinations are typically avoided during the first trimester and/or if you have been told to refrain from intercourse.

Can my partner come to the appointment with me?

  • Yes! We want everyone to feel as comfortable as possible during their appointments. Bringing someone to support you during the appointment can be very helpful if you are feeling apprehensive.
